How To DIY Your Wedding Dress (Like Angelina Jolie)

Angelina and Brad on Hello

In case you hadn't heard, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got married last week. And of course, her dress was amazing but in a very unconventional way. The dress itself was pretty simple but it was the veil that really took the cake. Jolie had her close friend Luigi Massi, Versace’s master tailor, hand-embroider dozens of her children’s designs — monkeys, music notes, stick figures of the entire family— into the floor-length chiffon headpiece. Talk about an original!

So how can you make your dress as original as Angelina's (without the cost or Versace's tailor)? Here are some ideas:

1. Wear a dress designed by a friend

Buy a regular wedding dress for the ceremony but then have an artistic friend design or make the dress for the reception or after party!

2. Turn something old into something new

If you want to use something that has been in your family for generations, then take it and repurpose it. Turn a piece of jewelry into a headband or a bracelet.

3. Incorporate it

If you loved your grandmother's dress but absolutely can't wear it take a piece of it and maybe sew it into your veil or put it on your purse.
