6 Unexpected Trends Coming Out of New York Fashion Week That You Can Easily Pull Off
We are heading towards the end of New York Fashion Week for Fall 2014 which means we now have a pretty good grasp of what the big trends for Fall are and they may surprise you! What is really great is most of them are pretty easy to work into your everyday and party wardrobes! Take a look at six of the big trends to come out of Fall 2014 Fashion Week that you can totally pull off!
Plaid
We saw plaid carried over from spring lines in a lot of presentations including Lucio Castro, Timo Weiland and Ernest Alexander. A great way to sport this look, that always plays into the trend of oversized jackets which we saw a lot of (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's line, The Row, was all about this), is this plaid coat from Kissell. Perfect for those crisp fall days! Pair it with some skinny jeans or black leather lings and a cute hat and you are good to go!
Oxblood
This was huge last fall and good news! It will be huge this fall so keep all your stuff! We saw this dramatic shade appear at Nicholas Bespoken, David Hart and Bosideng. Try a pair of skinny pants (like these ones from H&M) or a beautiful blouse or hat.
Wild Wild West
Hey, we all need some cowboys in our lives, don't we? According to CNN, Wild West and Americana motifs heavily influenced many of the runways. "Fall 2014 will be all about Americana and Wild, Wild West inspiration with fringe scarves, frayed edges, equestrian-inspired boots and blanket coats leading the charge," Sheila Aimette, a fashion forecaster for WGSN said. At Chanel we saw models traipsing down the runway in the chicest of cowboy hats as well as Tibi. Pair your cowboy hat with dramatic lace or a black jumpsuit. Be sure to get out your cowboy boots, best jeans and fringe jackets this fall. Check out this awesome fringe leather jacket from Urban Outfitters.
Animal Kingdom
Animal prints aren't going anywhere. The jungle was still very much alive at BCBGMAXAZARIA and Peter Som embraced leopard prints and feathers while Jason Wu featured fox jackets and fur handbags. If you aren't up for a fur handbag, how about a simple but dramatic zebra clutch from Ann Taylor?
Sequins
Preppy brands J.Crew and Kate Spade (pictured above) were all about the sparkles this year, which are great for weddings. Kate Spade had the most gorgeous pair of pink sparkly shoes that would steal attention from any bride (so maybe the bride should wear them). J.Crew also had some great sparkly pants that would be perfect for a Saturday night or rehearsal dinner. But while you are waiting to add a little sparkle, try these shoes with a pair of Solemates High Heelers.
Hats
Hats were everywhere this fashion week (mostly because of the freezing temperatures), but floppy hats will be huge in the fall and a number of great retailers like Urban Outfitters and Anthrolpologie are selling them. If you are really ambitious you can try to rock the pilgrim look which Tibi featured on the runways.
