13 Important Bridal Tips for Your Wedding Shoes

A woman’s love of shoes knows no bounds. At the time of her wedding, that love has been known to grow exponentially. I’ve come across brides that wear shoes that cost twice as much as their dress, shoes that were so uncomfortable they had to take them off half way through, and shoes that were so awkward to walk in, the bride tripped coming down the isle. All in the name of fashion!

Picking out the perfect pair of wedding shoes is like the topper on your wedding cake, it’s an accent piece that makes a statement. Depending on the cut of the dress, it’s an accent piece that very few people may actually see.

While, style and cost are two big considerations when choosing which shoes to walk down the isle in, here are a few more things to consider when making your sole commitment:

1. Always try the dress and shoes on at the same time! Don’t assume they’ll match in style and color.

2. Bold shoes are a fabulous and popular way to add a splash of color or an accent to your white wedding. Consider choosing solid colored shoes that stand out or match your bridesmaids dresses, or have colored soles! This is also a wonderful way to be sure you’ll wear them again!

3. Make sure you bring your shoes to your fitting. The dress will need to be tailored to your height while wearing them or else you’ll fall flat on your face.

4. Consider the fabric of your wedding dress… is it shinny, matte, silk or satin? Consider shoes that match or compliment in fabric and texture.

5. Choose your style of shoe to compliment your wedding dress. A flowing, strappy beach wedding dress may pair beautifully with strappy sandals. While your dream princess gown may look best with a pair of Manolo Blahnik D’Orsay style heels.

6. For added comfort make sure you add pads or cushions to your wedding shoes. You’ll be on your feet all day long and the last thing you want is for your feet to start hurting. Solemates actually sells a set which includes ball of foot cushions, & heel cushions and anti skid pads which are a great idea, especially on a new pair of shoes! 7. Make sure you can walk in the shoes that you choose, while wearing your wedding dress. Especially if your dress is floor length or it hits the ground, you are going to need to make sure you can walk properly in your wedding shoes. Last thing you want is to fall during your big entrance, or slip and tear your dress on the dance floor. Consider shoes that are more modest, but if you insist, at least practice before the big day. If you aren’t used to walking in big heels, your wedding is not the day to try it!

8. Don’t tower over your groom. If you are generally tall, consider a shorter heel that keeps you level or at a lower height than your future husband. If you are short, you can choose a taller heel to help even out the height. But make sure you can walk in them!
You don’t need to pair elaborate dresses with elaborate shoes or simple dresses with simple shoes. Sometimes an elaborate shoe can bring out the best in a simple, elegant dress and vice versa.

9. White, comes in more than one shade. Think about the colors of white on a paint wheel. Don’t assume it will match your dress. Make sure you compare both before committing.

10. Break them in. Some shoes may need a little breaking in to avoid hurting your feet on your wedding. Wear them around the house to break them in a little so they’re not completely stiff on wedding day. It’s especially important to scuff up the bottoms so that you don’t slide across a smooth surface. Solemates Anti-Skid pads were designed for this.

11. Do not forget the Solemates! These are your wedding heel’s best friend. Even if you don’t have an outdoor wedding, you will most likely be walking over grass, gravel, cobblestones or uneven pavement or surfaces to take your wedding photos. Solemates are heel caps that prevent you from sinking into the grass, and allow stability for your heels on uneven surfaces. If it’s muddy, they will also help protect your heel from sinking into soft ground or mud or getting grass or dirt stains. While you’re at it, don’t forget to grab a set for each of your bridesmaids too! They’ll be walking just as much! You can get them here: Solemates High Heeler

12. Don’t forget to get a pedicure before your big day so your feet look wonderful in your open toed shoes!

13. If you can’t afford expensive designer shoes, don’t feel bad or obligated! There are so many beautiful, yet affordable pairs to choose from! And remember… nobody will be looking at your feet, but you have to feel comfortable in your own shoes.
